Conservation officers said a black bear has been killed after it attacked a man in Port Coquitlam on Sunday afternoon. The B.C. Conservation Officer Service said it was notified at around 3 p.m. about the man being bitten outside of his apartment complex. The bear was gone by the time officers arrived, according to the BCCOS, but it later returned and was tranquillized. Conservation officers said, based on their investigation, the bear was deemed responsible for the attack. “The bear was dispatched due to public safety concerns,” the BCCOS stated, in a release. There have been multiple black bear attacks in B.C. in August. The most recent took place on Saturday, when an attack in the Cowichan Valley closed a regional park, but BCCOS didn’t dispatch the bear. In a separate incident on Aug. 9, a three-year-old was attacked by a black bear in the backyard of her home in Maple Ridge. The BCCOS later tracked down and killed the bear.
