B.C. ‘vaginal rejuvenation’ practitioner granted bail while appealing sex assault convictions

A “vaginal rejuvenation” practitioner from B.C.’s Lower Mainland who was found guilty of sexually assaulting several of his clients has been granted bail pending his appeal.

Farshad Khojsteh Kashani was sentenced to 11 years in prison earlier this fall after being convicted of assaulting seven women at his medical aesthetics business, which advertised “vaginal tightening” and other services.

The Coquitlam resident sought bail while waiting to appeal his case, and it was granted late last month — under a number of conditions, including that he remain under 24-hour house arrest with an electronic monitoring bracelet.

Because there was some concern Kashani, who grew up and studied medicine in Iran, might flee the country, he and his wife were also both ordered to turn over their passports.

Kashani was ordered to surrender his birth certificate as well, as it would be required to obtain a replacement passport from Iran, and his wife had to post a $150,000 cash deposit.

In her Nov. 28 ruling, Appeal Court Justice Susan Griffin found Kashani had met the bail eligibility criteria set out under the Criminal Code, including that his case is “not frivolous,” which she noted is “widely recognized as being a very low threshold.”

“I am satisfied that the appellant’s release would not undermine public confidence in the administration of justice,” Griffin said.

One of Kashani’s arguments was that the trial judge erred in approving the Crown’s application for “cross-count similar fact evidence,” allowing the jury to use evidence from his accusers’ similar allegations “for the purpose of deciding what touching occurred in relation to each complainant.”

Griffin noted the Crown found the grounds of his appeal “weak,” despite accepting they don’t meet the low bar for “frivolous.”

The court heard Kashani touched the women in an “inappropriate sexual manner” while performing non-surgical procedures on them, in some cases penetrating their vaginas “aggressively, to varying degrees” using a medical instrument.

The offences were found to be “highly invasive” and “prolonged,” Griffin said.

“The sentencing judge also found that the appellant’s moral blameworthiness was substantial, as the offences constituted a breach of trust and required a high level of intentionality,” she added.

Kashani, who has no prior criminal record, denied all of the women’s allegations throughout trial.

His appeal is expected to be heard by Sept. 23, 2026, according to the decision.
