Vancouver Whitecaps captain Jay DeMerit and Olympic gold medal skier Ashleigh McIvor announced their engagement Monday. DeMerit reportedly popped the question on a cliff while the couple was hiking in Pemberton near McIvor’s hometown of Whistler over Thanksgiving weekend. DeMerit joked on Twitter that she said yes even though he is currently sporting a mullet hairstyle. “You know when you propose to your girlfriend with a mullet and she says YES, she's the girl for you. So happy!! Love u @ashleighmcivor!,” DeMerit tweeted. McIvor tweeted on Monday “Not even in my wildest dreams, did I think I could find someone so perfect to share this incredible life with. I love you @D6MERIT.” The athletic powercouple has been together for about two years.
