85-year-old woman struck by vehicle in Richmond

An elderly woman was hospitalized after being struck by a driver in Richmond Monday evening, according to authorities.

The Richmond RCMP told CTV News in an email that officers responded to a collision involving a pedestrian near Gibbons Drive and Westminster Highway around 8 p.m.

The 85-year-old suffered injuries police believe are not life-threatening.

B.C. Emergency Health Services said paramedics treated one patient at the scene who was transported to hospital in “serious condition.”

“At this time, speed and impairment are not believed to be factors,” Mounties wrote. “Preliminary investigation indicated the pedestrian may have been crossing outside a designated crosswalk.”

Police said the driver remained on scene and is co-operating in the investigation, which they described as “active and ongoing.”

After the time change and the return of early sunsets, drivers are being reminded to stay alert.
