Six drivers were caught speeding excessively in Langley on Tuesday as part of a one-day traffic crackdown, according to Mounties. In a news release Wednesday, Langley RCMP said the drivers were ticketed over a two-hour span in the area of 256 Street and 0 Avenue. “Recognizing the hot weather conditions and the significant volume of cyclists on this roadway, the unit prioritized enforcement efforts to ensure cyclist safety and reduce risk,” Const. Meghan Marsden said in the release. Each of the six drivers was clocked travelling more than 40 kilometres an hour above the posted speed limit and had their vehicles impounded for one week, police said. “Excessive speeding continues to pose a serious risk to public safety,” said Marsden. “Drivers need to slow down and be mindful of others. We will continue targeted enforcement to help keep our community safe.”
