Three people were taken to hospital—one with “more serious” injuries—after a boat crash in Maple Ridge on Tuesday evening. In a news release Wednesday, Maple Ridge RCMP said the crash occurred at approximately 8:15 p.m. when the boat hit a train bridge pillar near Kanaka Creek Park. “Officers on scene learned that four male occupants of the boat were on board when it crashed. Three of the occupants were transported to hospital, one with more serious injuries,” Mounties said in the release, adding that all of the victims’ injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening. RCMP said officers secured the area and spoke with several people on scene, including the operator of the boat. Mounties said the cause of the crash is still being investigated and “all factors” are being considered. Maple Ridge RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit has taken conduct of the investigation and said they’re working with several other agencies, including CPKC and Transport Canada. “Residents are reminded to please take precautions when heading out on the water,” Insp. Martin Guay said in the release. “Always be prepared and understand the nature of the waterways you plan to access.
