$25K worth of ski gear stolen in Whistler recovered in Burnaby, RCMP say

An investigation into “high-value retail thefts” at ski gear stores in Whistler led police to a home in Burnaby earlier this week.

Investigators seized ski jackets, bags, tools and camping gear, along with 14 firearms and 10,000 rounds of ammunition, when executing a search warrant on March 24, Whistler RCMP said in a news release Thursday.

Police also arrested the suspect during the search, though he has since been released with conditions and a future court date.

Mounties did not share the man’s name, and a search of the police file number in B.C.’s Court Services Online system yields no results, suggesting charges have not yet been approved in the case.

The investigation stems from what Mounties described as “a series of high-value retail thefts targeting ski gear stores in Whistler.” They specifically mentioned thefts that occurred on Jan. 11 and March 14, though they did not name the stores targeted on those days.

“The total estimated value of the stolen merchandise is approximately $25,000,” police said, adding that their investigation is ongoing.
