25 charges laid after ‘extremely tedious and very detailed’ B.C. mail theft investigation: RCMP

Five men have been charged after a theft investigation that included the seizure of hundreds of IDs, bank cards, and pieces of mail, according to B.C. authorities.

The Burnaby RCMP’s investigation began in October of last year, after two reported break-ins at an apartment building in the city, the detachment said in a news release earlier this year. Two months later, a search warrant was executed, leading to the seizure o 346 IDs, 496 bank cards, and 576 pieces of mail—among other things.

On Tuesday, Mounties announced charges in the case.

“These types of investigations can be extremely tedious and very detailed,” Sgt. Jamie Belleville said, in a statement.

“I am very proud of our Prolific Offender Suppression Team for getting this investigation to this point.”

Jake Dela Cruz Capinpin, Terrence Mathew Ugang, and Flaviano Uayan Dalura have each been charged with two counts of break-and-enter and two counts of mail theft.

Jaymarc Sibal Malana has been charged with two counts of break and enter, two counts of mail theft, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime, one count of forgery, one count of possession of ID documents, and one count of possessing a forged document with intent.

Christopher Steven Santos has been charged with two counts of possession of property obtained by crime, one count of forgery and one count of possession of ID documents.

The men are between 25 and 36 years old.
