The province’s police watchdog is investigating after a 15-year-old was seriously injured in a collision in Hamilton on Saturday. The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said two Hamilton police officers were in the area of Centennial Parkway North and Delawana Drive around 2:30 a.m. when they saw two northbound vehicles travelling at a high rate of speed. When one of the vehicles fled the area, the officers followed the other one, a Kia Rio, the SIU said. As the vehicle approached the intersection of Centennial Parkway and South Service Road, the SIU said it was involved in a collision with multiple vehicles. One passenger of the Rio, a 15-year-old, was taken to the hospital with serious injury, the SIU said. Three investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case. The SIU invokes its mandate when the actions of police result in death, serious injury, sexual assault, and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
