Investigation underway after 1 person found dead following fire in north Scarborough, police say

An investigation is underway after one person was found dead following a fire in an industrial area in north Scarborough on Saturday night, police say.

The blaze broke out outside of a building near Markham Road and Passmore Avenue, south of Steeles Avenue East.

Toronto police said they were called to that area around 9:45 p.m. for reports of a vehicle fire.

Const. Viktor Sarudi confirmed to CP24 that a deceased person was located on scene, adding that police do not have any other details at this time.

“I don’t have any information on the deceased person, and the circumstances of the fire will be part of the investigation,” he wrote in an email.

It’s not clear at this point what started the fire nor if the person died as a result of it or due to other reasons.

The media officer said police will provide additional information through a news release, if investigators deem this death is as suspicious.
