Shooting in Toronto’s King West neighbourhood leaves 1 man seriously injured

A man is in hospital with serious injuries after a shooting in the King St. and Spadina Ave. area overnight. CP24's Courtney Heels reports from the scene.

One man suffered serious injuries after he was shot in Toronto’s King West neighbourhood early Tuesday morning.

Gunfire erupted on the sidewalk near King and Brant streets at around 4:45 a.m.

Police received several 911 calls reporting that multiple shots had been fired in the area and when officers arrived on scene, they found a man suffering from “at least one gunshot wound.”

“Officers were able to apply a tourniquet,” Insp. Dan Pravica said, adding that the victim was subsequently transported to hospital by paramedics.

He is currently in serious, but non-life-threatening condition, Pravica said.

No other injuries have been reported.

Police have not provided any information about possible suspects but say officers are on scene, canvassing for witnesses and video surveillance footage.

Members of the Forensic Identification Unit are also on scene, searching for evidence.

King Street is currently shut down as the investigation continues and Pravica said it will likely remain closed into the afternoon.

The shooting happened at around the same time a man walked into a Toronto hospital suffering from gunshot wounds. The man was subsequently pronounced dead, police later confirmed. Investigators have said there is no evidence at this time to connect the two incidents.
