Severe thunderstorm warnings ended for Toronto and GTA

Environment Canada is warning of thunderstorms across Toronto and the GTA Wednesday evening.

Severe thunderstorm warnings have ended for Toronto and several regions across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) this evening.

Yellow-level thunderstorm warnings were in place for Toronto, Brampton, Mississauga, Newmarket, Georgina, Whitby, Pickering and Oshawa.

Burlington, Oakville and Hamilton were under an orange-level warning.

Environment Canada previously said line of strong thunderstorms was moving in from Lake Huron this afternoon and is expected to track across the region into the evening.

Winds gusting up to 100 km/h, quarter-sized hail and up to 30 millimetres of rain were previously predicted by the weather agency.

The warnings came as multiple areas across Toronto and GTA are currently under extreme heat advisories.

Severe thunderstorm warnings are still in effect for areas in Ottawa and Quebec.
