Scarborough renames street in honour of Dave Devall

Scarborough has recognized Dave Devall with a temporary sign at CTV headquarters.

Long-time CTV weather specialist Dave Devall will soon have a street named after him, in honour of his many years of service and coming retirement.

On Thursday, Scarborough Community Council voted unanimously to temporarily change Channel Nine Court -- the street that leads into the CTV studio -- to Dave Devall Way in the coming days.

Devall, who has worked at CTV for 48 years, officially retires on April 3.

A special sign denoting the name change will be put up at the intersection of Channel Nine Court and McCowan Road in advance of Devall's retirement.

The sign will stay up for a few months before it is taken down and formally presented to the newly-retired Devall.

Devall says he is flattered by the street sign gesture.

"I've had so many cards, letters, e-mails, you know tributes, and this is going to be another one of those important tributes to me." Devall said. "I had no idea that what I did on a day-to-day basis as a job, would have so much impact on peoples' lives."

Councillor Chin Lee told CTV News that Devall has earned a place in the hearts of the local viewers who have watched him throughout his long career.

"For the citizens of Scarborough, it is an honour that he has been providing this kind of reporting and entertainment to them," Lee said. "And it is an honour that he has been in our midst all these years."

Lee said that several constituents approached him with the idea of renaming the street in Devall's honour.

On Wednesday night, Devall was honoured with a retirement party at the Delta Toronto East hotel.
