Midtown Toronto Mandarin restaurant to close since opening in 1991

The Mandarin located at Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue in Toronto's midtown is shuttering its doors after being a staple in the area for three decades.

Mandarin is planning to shutter one of its buffet-style restaurants in Midtown Toronto, after serving meals there for more than three decades.

The location at Yonge and Eglinton, adjacent to Eglinton Station, is set to close mid-January.

The restaurant, which opened in 1991, announced that it is shutting down for good due to redevelopment in the area and its lease expiring.

Since opening, Mandarin Yonge’s management and staff says they have been “proud to serve the community.”

“Like all our locations, Mandarin Yonge has been part of numerous customer celebrations and special moments,” the website announcement reads. “It will live on in the memories of many. “

Mandarin did not say whether or not it plans to open another location elsewhere in midtown, or what will happen with staff at that location.

“Thank you for your patronage over the years,” the announcement reads.

Yonge and Eglinton has seen major changes in the area over the years, from major condo projects to the belabored construction of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT (which still does not have a set opening date, after nearly 15 years).

The store will continue to accept reservations and serve diners up until Jan. 18, which is its final day of operation.
