Hundreds march in Toronto to put a stop to slaughterhouses, honour animals killed for consumption

Animal activists and supporters are marching from Christie Pits Park to Allan Gardens to raise awareness about slaughterhouses on Saturday afternoon.

The event marks Toronto’s fourth March to Close All Slaughterhouses. Between 600 and 900 people were expected to attend.

Throughout the walk, there will be graphic videos and images of animals being killed to denounce “what takes place behind closed slaughterhouse doors,” according to a press release.

The march will end with a memorial service at Allan Gardens around 2:30 p.m. in honour of the “70 billion land animals and over 1 trillion aquatic animals” who are killed each year for human consumption, the march’s organizing committee says.

The group said in a news release that they hope to abolish slaughterhouses as well as meat and other animal products.
