OTTAWA - The Supreme Court will hear a Canadian drug maker's challenge of the Viagra patent held by pharmaceutical giant Pfizer.

The high court granted leave to appeal that was being sought by Teva Canada.

The company has unsuccessfully challenged Pfizer's dominance of the erectile dysfunction drug patent in Federal Court.

The Federal Court rejected Teva's request to introduce a generic version of the drug.

Pfizer's patent on the drug expires in 2014.

As per its custom, the Supreme Court did not give reasons for agreeing to hear the case
