The dog days of summer took on a new meaning in Saskatoon on Tuesday. Pooches of all sizes dove into Mayfair Pool for the City of Saskatoon’s annual Dog Day of Summer. The annual free event allows dogs to have a fun day in the pool after it’s been closed to the public for the season. Participants needed to sign up beforehand and were assigned a one-hour swim slot. Service and therapy dogs were allowed to swim first in the morning. No humans were allowed in the water during the event. The Saskatoon SPCA also hosted a fundraiser BBQ for those who worked up an appetite. Saskatoon’s George Ward Outdoor Pool closes Aug. 23 while the Lathey Outdoor Pool is open until Aug. 30. Riversdale Outdoor Pool will be the final pool to close on Sept. 2. Spray pads across Saskatoon are open until Sept. 7.
