An unlicensed immigration consultant has been ordered to repay $96,000 to a victim following an investigation by the Saskatchewan Ministry of Immigration and Career Training. The ministry says the compensation order issued against Yan Wang under The Immigration Services Act. According to the ministry, Wang collected payment to prepare and submit documents for the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program. Instead, he failed to file any paperwork and gave the client falsified documents. The ministry says the victim has now recovered all funds lost to the unauthorized and fraudulent services. This is the first compensation order ever paid under the act. Under the Immigration Services Act, the ministry is authorized to investigate complaints, issue compensation orders, or administrative penalties, and enforce those orders against immigration consultants who engage in fraudulent or negligent conduct. The ministry says consultants who provide services without a license, produce false documents, or otherwise exploit clients face serious consequences.
