Sask. RCMP investigating after homemade spike strips discovered

RCMP in Nipawin are investigating after several homemade “tire deflation devices” were found scattered around the community.

On Sunday, March 1, at around 10:30 a.m., Nipawin RCMP received reports of community members finding the devices, commonly referred to as “spike strips,” on several streets in the community and outside the Nipawin RCMP detachment parking lot.

Officers patrolled the streets following calls but did not find any additional devices, which were described as pieces of white electrical cord with black drywall screws poking out.

RCMP confirmed that a total of five strips were found at:

• The corner of 1^st Avenue East and 2nd Street East,
• The corner of Railway Avenue and 1st Avenue West and;
• In the entrance to the parking lot of the Nipawin RCMP Detachment

An investigation is ongoing.

The detachment asks anyone who witnessed suspicious activity at the listed locations between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. on March 1 to contact RCMP or Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers.

Nipawin is located approximately 270 kilometres northeast of Saskatoon.
