Sask. has lead country in mortgage delinquency for 8 straight years

A greater percentage of Saskatchewan homeowners were behind on mortgage payments in the last quarter of 2025 than those in any other province, according to recent data from Canada’s banks.

The Canadian Bankers Association (CBA) data shows Saskatchewan’s mortgage delinquency rate was double the national average of 0.26 per cent at the end of last year.

This marks eight straight years the province has maintained its dismal status as the country’s most delinquent mortgage market, shown in both the CBA numbers obtained from major Canadian Banks and Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation reports compiled from Equifax data.

Any home loans past due for 90 or more days are included in the data, which saw Saskatchewan’s rate increase from 0.4 to 0.52 per cent between the third and fourth quarters of 2025.

In concrete terms, that’s 638 loans out of more than 121,000 total mortgages in the province.

Manitoba followed Sask. in mortgage delinquency as of late last year, with a rate of 0.36 per cent.
