A 22-year-old man is facing several charges after a break-in and arson at a high school on Onion Lake Cree Nation. At around 5:45 a.m. on June 27, officers along with Onion Lake Cree Nation Peacekeepers responded to a report of a break and enter at the school, Saskatchewan RCMP said in an update on Wednesday. RCMP say during a search of the school, officers discovered a fire and the Onion Lake Cree Nation Fire Rescue service was called in. Police say the building was unoccupied at the time of the fire and investigators later determined the blaze was suspicious. Following an investigation, the 22-year-old man, who is from Onion Lake Cree Nation, has been charged with mischief over $5,000, break and enter, arson causing damage to property and theft under $5,000. RCMP say the man made his first court appearance in Onion Lake on July 6. The Saskatchewan RCMP’s Battleford Forensic Identification Section also assisted with the investigation. Onion Lake Cree Nation is located about 325 kilometres west of Prince Albert.
