Latest Sask. lotto winner takes home $5 million

WATCH: Sask. lotteries has announced the province’s newest millionaire. The lucky lotto winner was presented with a cheque on Wednesday.

While out getting a slushy for herself and her friend, Mike, Ivy R. decided to check the lottery tickets she had purchased a few days earlier.

“I saw five and then I saw five zero, so I thought, great 50 bucks, sweet,” Ivy said.

But the Outlook woman was in for a huge surprise upon bringing her ticket to the cashier.

“I took it up there and he rang it through, and I said, ‘Just take the slush out of that,’ and he jumped back and he was shaking, I was shaking when he told me. So I said, ‘I’ll be right back, I gotta go home.’ I showed Mike the ticket and he looked at it and asked, ‘Are we rich now?’ And then he said, ‘Where’s my slush?’” Ivy said.

Ivy turned out to be Saskatchewan’s newest millionaire. She purchased her ticket in Whitecap while taking her dog, Lady, to the groomers.

At a cheque presentation on Wednesday, Ivy was accompanied by her friend and Lady while she spoke about how this money will help her life.

“I’ll be out of debt for the first time ever in my life... I’m still overwhelmed, I can’t quite believe it, but it’s gonna make a big impact,” Ivy said.

Ivy says she plans to use the money for some home improvements, along with a reward for Lady.

In addition to a very large cheque, Sask. Lotteries gifted Ivy a slushy maker, so she never needs to worry about forgetting to pick one up again.
