Labour Day Classic 50/50 jackpot breaks record

WATCH: The Riders broke a record for the most money raised in the Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation’s 50/50 draw.

The 50/50 jackpot at Sunday’s Labour Day Classic broke last year’s record, with half going to one lucky fan and the other going to the Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation’s initiatives.

According to the foundation, a total of $1.48 million worth of tickets were purchased at the stadium and online, surpassing the previous record of $1.21 million.

A little more than $744,000, or half the jackpot, went to one lucky ticket holder, Brendan Abraham.

The other half of the jackpot will fuel the foundation’s amateur football initiatives across Saskatchewan, which includes helmet replacements, funding travel for northern teams, and supporting the development of safe programs for young athletes.

“This result is a testament to the heart of Rider Nation,” Cindy Fuchs, Executive Director of the Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation, said in a news release. “Your support means more kids can step onto the field, build confidence, and experience the power of playing football.”
