Jelly Roll to headline new Saskatoon music festival

WATCH: SaskTel Centre announces it's launching a new one-day summer festival called Outskirts, featuring Jelly Roll, Third Eye Blind and Wide Mouth Mason.

SaskTel Centre will be hosting an outdoor music festival this upcoming summer.

Outskirts Music Festival will make its debut on June 26th with Jelly Roll set to headline the event, which is expected to bring 20,000 people to Saskatoon.

“Our team at SaskTel Centre obviously puts on events all the time, but this is even something unique and different for us,” John Howden, CEO of the SaskTel Centre, told CTV News.

The one-day festival will also feature Third Eye Blind and Cooper Alan. Some local Saskatchewan talent is also set to take the stage with Wide Mouth Mason and Brayden King.

“This has been in the planning stages for three months now. Obviously, getting a lineup like this together takes a lot of time. And then the logistics around the site and the production and the stage and everything that goes into creating a world-class music festival. We’re really excited,” Howden said.

Jelly Roll, a singer and rapper from Nashville, is currently one of the hottest acts in country music. In 2023, he won three CMT Music Awards along with receiving nominations as best new artist from the Grammy Awards and the CMA Awards.

He brought The Beautifully Broken Great Northern Tour to Saskatchewan earlier this year, playing the SaskTel Centre on March 15 and Regina’s Brandt Centre on March 16.

Howden also shared that the after booking Jelly Roll for the event, the SaskTel Centre team worked to create a program which had a little something for everyone.

“We secured Jelly Roll first and then from there, trying to figure out what would kind of be a unique lineup to go with Jelly Roll ... we also didn’t want to just be a full-on country festival either,” Howden said.

The prospect of an outdoor event was something new for the organizing team. Howden shared that he’s hopeful people will take it as an opportunity to enjoy what summer in Saskatoon has to offer.

“It’s kind of a different feel, and a different one for everybody to be outside, of course, kind of the first day of summer holidays for everyone. And to be outside, I think, could ask for nothing better,” Howden said.

Tickets for the event start at $163.50 before fees and taxes, and sales are scheduled to begin on Dec. 5.
