Saskatoon fire crews responded Friday afternoon to smoke and flames in a three-storey apartment building on the 4300 block of Brighton Circle. The fire was reported around 3:42 p.m.and was caused by a cardboard box left on a stovetop, which filled the building with smoke. The incident triggered a second alarm, bringing four pumpers, two aerial ladders, a rescue truck, and a battalion chief to the scene. Arriving crews found the burning box in the affected suite. The sprinkler system had already activated, containing the fire to the kitchen. Firefighters extinguished the remaining flames, ventilated the suite and hallways, and allowed residents to return safely. All occupants were evacuated with no injuries reported. Firefighters and an investigator remained on scene as of 3:58 p.m. to determine the cause and assess damages.
