The mâmawêyatitân centre in north central Regina played host to a milestone celebration for the White Pony Lodge on Sunday. The organization – which does weekly cleanups of garbage and hazardous materials, hands out food and drink, and provides medical assistance to those in need in the North Central community – held its tenth anniversary this year. “So, we decided on the mâmawêyatitân centre because it’s in the centre of North Central. So, we figured it was a great place [where] everybody in the community could come and join together,” said White Pony Lodge Board Member Zalin Cooper. Cooper has been a volunteer with the organization for one and a half years, and it has been a life changing experience for her. “I love helping people out. Being a teacher and working in EMS, I love to come here all the time,” Cooper said. “Just seeing the people in the community, even if we’re doing something really small, like just giving a sticker out to a kid or a sandwich out to somebody on the street. Just seeing how that can brighten their day, it hits the heart.” Lodge members say they were very pleased with the turnout on Sunday and were happy to see the North Central community celebrating together.
