The University of Regina Rams defeated the University of Manitoba Bisons 23-8 on Friday night at Leibel Field. The Rams outgained the Bisons with 470 yards of total offence to Manitoba’s 231. Regina’s offence was spearheaded by a rushing attack that ran for 254 yards — led by running backs Carter Ashman (136) and Christian Katende (105). Ashman averaged 8.5 yards per carry while Katende had 6.2 a piece, with each back also scoring a touchdown. In his first start since Nov. 1, 2025, Rams quarterback Noah Pelletier threw for 224 yards and one interception — completing 12 passes on 26 attempts. That 2025 start was also against the Bisons, which the U of R won in overtime. “It was amazing. Obviously, it’s great to start with a win,” Pelletier said after the game. “Today really showed what our offence can do, there’s a lot of missed plays out there so hopefully we can clean that up for next week, but I got to give a shout out to the defence. They really held it down for us and I know that they’re going to continue to do that.” The defence held Manitoba quarterback Cole Anseeuw to just 112 yards and an interception, who went 14 for 24 in the process. The Rams defence stifled the Bisons’ offence, with Rams linebacker Owen Zimmer leading the team in tackles with 6.5. He also recovered a Manitoba fumble. Rams defensive back Jacob Tkachuk had five total tackles of his own along with a forced fumble and interception. Anseeuw was responsible for the Manitoba’s sole touchdown late in the fourth quarter on an 11-yard rush. The Rams improved to 2-0 to start the season and now look toward a matchup with the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds on Friday, Sept. 18 in Vancouver at 7 p.m. CST.
