Tornado, Severe thunderstorm warning issued for parts of southwestern Sask.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued a tornado warning for parts of southwestern Saskatchewan on Friday, with some areas also under a severe thunderstorm watch or warning.

Shortly after 6 p.m., Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued a tornado warning for the R.M. of Oakdale including Coleville, as well as the R.M. of Winslow including Dodsland and Plenty.

A severe thunderstorm watch was issued for parts of southwestern Saskatchewan earlier in the day, with some areas upgraded to a thunderstorm warning.

Meteorologists were tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing nickel sized hail and said wind gusts of up to 90 km/h were possible.

According to ECCC, conditions were favourable for the development of thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, heavy rainfall, and large hail.

ECCC advises people to go indoors if they hear thunder and to be aware of the damages thunderstorms can cause.

The weather agency said thunderstorms will move to the northeast through the afternoon and evening.
