Advanced Education Minister Ken Cheveldayoff and representatives from Saskatchewan’s three largest post-secondary institutions are travelling to the Philippines and Thailand to strengthen international education and research partnerships. The mission will focus on expanding collaboration in education, research and innovation, while supporting the province’s labour market and growth goals. “Building relationships abroad connects Saskatchewan to the world and increases our province’s international visibility,” Cheveldayoff said in a news release. “Promoting Saskatchewan’s post-secondary advantages on a global scale helps meet Saskatchewan’s Growth Plan goals.” The delegation will meet with government, industry and academic leaders and is expected to sign several memorandums of understanding aimed at fostering collaboration and expanding exchange opportunities for students, faculty and researchers. University of Regina President Jeff Keshen said the mission reflects “a shared commitment to building long-term international relationships” and expanding opportunities for student mobility. University of Saskatchewan President Vince Bruni-Bossio said strengthening ties in the Philippines and Thailand will expand research and innovation partnerships beyond the province. Saskatchewan Polytechnic President Larry Rosia added the trip presents “an important opportunity to strengthen Saskatchewan Polytech’s global connections,” including signing an agreement with the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. The Philippines and Thailand are key trade partners. In 2024, Saskatchewan exports totaled more than $121 million to the Philippines and over $128 million to Thailand. Officials say the mission is intended to raise Saskatchewan’s global profile and attract international talent to the province. The mission will take place from Feb. 20 to 28, 2026.
