The Rural Municipality (RM) of Sherwood is looking to hire a consultant to provide communication support services. The RM has issued a request for proposals (RFP), inviting offers from qualified communications consultants that can provide strategic and operational communications support. “The RM of Sherwood is a growing municipality surrounding Regina. The RM requires effective communications to support council decisions, public engagement, and service delivery,” the RFP read. The RFP lists its objectives as improving the clarity and consistency of communication, enhancing public engagement, strengthening the RM’s digital presence and providing strategic communications advice. The RM is also looking to receive support in handling crisis and issues management. In addition to those objectives, the successful proponent will also be tasked with content development, which could include websites, newsletters and reports. “Deliverables may include communications strategies, media materials, engagement plans, and performance reports,” the RFP read. The RM is looking for candidates with municipal experience, strong writing skills, media relations expertise and a knowledge of Saskatchewan. The successful proponent will have a one-year term with renewal options. All proposals are to be submitted electronically by July 30, 2026. Data centre backlash In April, the RM of Sherwood greenlit the construction of a 300-megawatt data centre on Regina’s southeastern outskirts, sparking criticism from many local community members. Complaints were raised about water and energy use, noise and light pollution as well as broader fears about the prevalence of AI and its consequences. Bell Canada, the company behind the project, says the centre’s development and operation will be in compliance with all associated environmental regulations as outlined in its agreement with the RM and that measures are in place to mitigate noise and light pollution.
