Regina’s Interpro steel plant turned back the pages of time by reintroducing the Canada Goose as it’s corporate symbol. A recently restored 10-foot goose statue was unveiled at ceremony outside the plant Wednesday.

Employees chanted “The Goose Is Back” as Regina’s Interpro Pipe and Steel prepared to unveil a restored 10-foot statue of the plant’s original symbol.

“I’ve got goose memorabilia all over the house from the first go around with IPSCO,” Brad Forster, vice president of Regina operations, told CTV News.

The Canada Goose goes back to the 1960’s when the Regina plant was known as IPSCO.

The statue was retired in 2007 as the company went through ownership changes.

It was recently removed from a nearby park and sent for restoration as the newly named Interpro Pipe and Steel returns the plant to its roots.

“Just to see the goose back was something that I’ll never forget, and I was so proud that they took the time to understand our roots and make sure that they were going to leverage that moving forward,” Forster added.

It was a nostalgic moment for long-time employees who attended the statue unveiling.

“It’s actually historic because when we first heard about the change, Interpro Pipe and Steel and to see the goose come back – hey it was the good old days so we’re excited,” employee Rod Williams noted.

Business is rebounding at the Regina steel plant under its new ownership as orders come in.

Interpro is currently searching for over 400 additional workers, bringing the total workforce at the plant to over 1,000.
