Whether it’s a Cerberus or Chimera from Greek mythology, or King Ghidorah from the Godzilla universe, there is no shortage of lore about three-headed monsters. And the defending Grey Cup champion Saskatchewan Roughriders may have a three-headed monster of their own. The 2026 Rider receiving attack is led by Kian Schaffer-Baker, Sam Emilus and KeeSean Johnson. Quarterback Trevor Harris has been providing a steady diet of targets to the trio whenever one happens to get open. “I’m very, very fortunate, the fact that Schaffer doesn’t have a 1,000-yard season blows my mind. Because he’s a 1,500-yard receiver,” Harris said. “Sam, same thing. I think these guys are all 1,400–1,500-yard receivers. I have bigger goals for them than they probably do." Emilus told CTV News that the luxury of having three alpha-type receivers on the field at once is that if opposing defences decide to key in one guy, it opens up space for the other two. “If they want to rotate the defence to a certain type of guy then the other guys will be more open and we have more opportunities to make plays,” he said. “We understand that. And every week is going to change and every week we’ll be ready for that.” Even though there’s only one ball to go around, the three talented pass catchers don’t seem to mind sharing. They celebrate each others’ successes regardless of whoever happens to have a big game on a weekly basis. “I love seeing them do well, they love seeing me do well, too. So obviously we just enjoy playing football,” Emilus said. “We play for one another, and we know the ball will come our way regardless.” Harris echoed the sentiment of his top three pass catchers being as unselfish as they come. “Those guys are all very unselfish guys and we’re very fortunate to have them – not only in the way they play the ball [as] receivers but how they block and their personalities as well,” he said. Johnson (479) and Schaffer-Baker (471) are both top five in the CFL in receiving yards, ranking third and fourth respectively, while Emilus sits second in touchdown catches with four on the year. The Riders will need all three heads working in tandem on Thursday when they face an Edmonton defence that ranks top 3 in in points per game, total yards per game, and rush and pass yards per game.
