With over 8,600 incidents reported, Regina actually saw a slight decline in overall police-related incidents in the first half of the year. Totalling 8,680 incidents from January to June 2026, the stats from the Regina Police Service (RPS) represent a one per cent decrease from the same period in 2025 and a 13 per cent dip from 2017. From 2017 to 2026, Regina reported its highest total crime in 2019, with 11,411 reported incidents. Within the plateauing total, several crime trends have differed greatly. RPS noted that property crime is on the rise, with the increase driven by more thefts. In the first six months of 2026, RPS reported 2,594 thefts – representing a 23 per cent increase from 2025. Theft from vehicles and shoplifting increased 43 and 27 per cent respectively. Theft of vehicles as a whole fell to its lowest mid-year total in its 10-year review period – recording 187. Vehicle thefts peaked in 2019 with 789. However, the service noted that overall thefts, despite increasing from 2025, still remain four per cent below the level reported in 2017. After peaking in 2025 with 298, arson incidents at mid-year 2026 came out to 232. The service noted the decrease could be attributed to changing reporting standards – which no longer classify fires lit for warmth as arson. Approximately 78 per cent of arsons involved bin fires, according to RPS. Regina’s Board of Police Commissioners are set to meet to discuss the report on Thursday, Aug. 20.
