CTV News viewers can expect to see some familiar faces trading places. After Thanksgiving this year, anchors Lee Jones and Cole Davenport will be swapping spots — with Lee anchoring CTV News at Five and Cole anchoring CTV News at Six. The change will take place Tuesday, Oct. 13. For Jones, it was a necessary move made to help him spend more time with his family. “I want to spend more time with my young son Remy who’s into a lot of sports endeavors and unfortunately, the time constraints of getting off at 7 o’clock just doesn’t work for helping out,” Jones said. Jones has worked for CTV Saskatchewan for nearly 27 years. After working as a reporter and sports director, he became co-anchor of CTV News at Six in 2018. Going forward, in addition to the added flexibility, Jones will also take on assignment editor duties, and do more work behind the scenes. “This is just the next evolution, so to speak, to make sure that I can be the parent I want to be and still be part of the process here at CTV,” he shared. Jones expressed high hopes for Davenport, who said he was honoured to anchor the Six. “It’s something that I think every TV news person thinks about, and getting that chance just means everything to me,” Davenport said. Hailing from Estevan, Davenport joined CTV Regina as an intern in 2017. When that finished, he went on to become a video journalist with CTV Yorkton for a year before returning to Regina. He has worn many hats at CTV Regina over the years, including roles as a reporter, anchor for CTV News at 11:30 p.m., anchor for CTV News at Five and as assignment editor. “I’ve learned every possible job that I can on the news side of our building and I’m looking forward to having a chance to put all those skills together into what you’ll see at 6 o’clock,” he said. Director of News & Public Affairs for CTV Saskatchewan J.C. Garden said the change will be seamless, and both Jones and Davenport remain committed to telling Saskatchewan’s stories. “Sometimes the best career moves aren’t about moving up. They’re about finding the role that’s the right fit,” said J.C. Garden, director of news and public affairs for CTV Regina. “Lee and Cole are both exceptional leaders and journalists, and this change gives each of them an opportunity to do what they do best while continuing to serve Saskatchewan audiences with the same passion and commitment they’ve always brought to the newsroom.”
