New Regina long-term care facility to be completed by fall 2028, province says

Work is continuing at a steady pace on what will be Regina’s newest long-term care facility.

The Regina Specialized Long-Term Care facility (RSLTC) is a planned multi-story building on government-owned land designed to serve seniors and residents afflicted with long-term needs such as dementia, brain injuries and complex behavioural needs.

The facility will be located just south of the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Regina campus on the city’s southeastern outskirts. It is expected to host a total of 240 specialized long-term care beds.

“Our government is committed to providing seniors and individuals in long-term care with safe and comfortable spaces to live,” Lori Carr, the minister for seniors and rural and remote health, said in a Monday news release.

“We are very pleased to see the continued progress on the Regina Specialized Long-Term Care Home that will serve Regina and area residents for years to come.”

Construction first began in September 2025 and is expected to be completed by fall 2028.

So far, the province says work on the facility’s foundation and stairwell structure is ongoing.

Those commuting near the site have surely seen the tower crane erected at the site – as crews continue to pour concrete for the facility’s foundation slab and vertical support columns.

According to the province, each floor of the facility will comprise of four resident neighbourhoods arranged around a central hub, providing a “vibrant space for dining, social interaction and connection,” the province said.

“Additionally, the facility will include individual resident rooms with bathrooms, indoor and outdoor multipurpose spaces, a therapy centre and Indigenous gathering and spiritual spaces; all to enhance residents’ quality of life and wellbeing,” the province said in its update.

The facility is being built by Calgary-based Graham Design Builders LP.

The new information comes as part of a new initiative from the provincial government called the “Monthly Construction Update” – which seeks to brief the public about the progress of ongoing infrastructure projects.
