Moose Jaw and city manager part ways

Maryse Carmichael has departed her role as Moose Jaw's city manager effective immediately.

The City of Moose Jaw announced Tuesday afternoon that Maryse Carmichael has departed as city manager, effective immediately.

Carmichael was named city manager on May 3, 2023. A former Canadian Forces pilot who also served as Commanding Officer of 43 Wing Squadron at 15 Wing Moose Jaw, Carmichael worked for CAE, an aviation and aerospace component manufacturer, before joining city administration.

“We thank Ms. Carmichael for her leadership, dedication, and many contributions to our community throughout her tenure, and we extend our best wishes for success in her future endeavors,” Mayor James Murdock said in a media release.

Rhonda Smysniuk, who was hired as chief of staff on June 1, 2025, will serve as the interim city manager.

A special council meeting was scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday. The meeting’s agenda outlined the City of Moose Jaw’s 2026 budget.
