Junior Citizen of the Year Awards presented to 5 Sask. recipients

Five young Saskatchewan residents are recognized at Government House with Junior Citizen of the Year honours and bursaries.

Five people from Saskatchewan were presented with Junior Citizen of the Year Awards on Thursday.

Saskatchewan’s Lieutenant Governor Bernadette McIntyre made the presentation at Government House, which marked the 50th anniversary of the awards.

The 2026 Junior Citizen of the Year Award recipients are Eli Bartlett from Prince Albert, Noah Cappelle from Meadow Lake, Kynlee Hicks from Regina, and Katrianne Skopyk from Christopher Lake, who will each receive a $3,000 bursary provided by SaskPower.

Award recipients were required to live in Saskatchewan, be between the ages of eight and 18-years-old, have a positive lifestyle, be dedicated to community and school, demonstrate a strong sense of caring and responsibility, have overcome personal challenges, and inspire others.

For the second year, a Junior Citizen of the Year STEM Award was also presented. Marinn Acorn of Prince Albert will receive a $3,000 bursary provided by the Crown Investments Corporation of Saskatchewan.

The STEM award recognizes a youth who meets the criteria for Junior Citizen of the Year, along with demonstrated aptitude in science, technology, engineering or math.

The awards, sponsored by the Saskatchewan Weekly Newspapers Association, were presented in partnership with SaskPower, the Crown Investments Corporation and the Office of the Lieutenant Governor.
