Residents of the College Park 1 retirement community celebrated the 17th annual “All Seniors Care Senior Games.” The opening ceremonies took place this afternoon, with dignitaries joining residents in the dining room. About 150 residents turned out to take part in a week of festive events. The kitchen will serve games -themed beverages each day, and the community has been decorated with themed decorations and floral arrangements. Activities this week include bocce ball, shuffleboard and bingo, giving residents plenty of opportunities for friendly competition. This year, the Senior Games coincidentally line up with the start of the Olympic Winter Games on Friday. “We’re kind of the prequel to the Olympics. We got in one step ahead of them. We will excitedly follow the Olympics with the residents and keep up with them,” said Karen Simonar, executive director of College Park 1. The opening ceremonies also featured a bean-bag toss competition between Regina’s police chief and deputy fire chief, with newly appointed Regina Police Chief Lorilee Davies claiming the gold.
