City of Regina receiving 13 more electric buses

The City of Regina has received 13 new battery-electric buses, completing an order of 20 vehicles made in 2024.

Regina’s first seven electric buses began operating in April 2025. According to the City, the fleet has been in use daily and are operating on par with the City’s diesel fleet.

The electric units produce 40 per cent few greenhouse gas emissions and costing about half as much per kilometre, according to the City. The average range for an EV bus is around 340 kilometres, which drops to 220 kilometres in the extreme cold.

With the new additions, the 20 electric buses now make up about 16 per cent of Regina’s total fleet of 123 buses.

According to the update, the City has saved more than $250,000 in fuel since the adoption of the electric buses.

In 2024, the City of Regina received $26 million in federal funding, which covered 50 per cent of the costs connected to the purchase of 20 electric buses and upgrades to the transit maintenance facility with charging equipment.
