Carmichael Outreach is asking for some public support. The Regina non-profit said it’s in dire need of a host of items after going through such a prolonged and harsh winter. Especially, with a hot summer on the horizon. “We had an exceptionally cold winter, as everybody knows, and it just depleted our resources,” development director Janis Miller told CTV Your Morning Saskatchewan on Wednesday. “We were basically open way longer than we expected to be or hoped to be.” With the summer heat, Miller said demand is still high as Carmichael serves close to 8,000 people per month. Miller said the types of items needed at Carmichael include: • Bottled water • Hamper items (canned vegetables, fruits, meat) • Diapers • Wipes • Socks • New underwear • Soaps and other shower supplies The development director also said it was helpful for people to stop by Carmichael just to see if people are okay. This Friday, the non-profit is hosting a sold-out dinner and fundraising event at the Rosemary and Rye Restaurant in Regina’s downtown. Carmichael is also set to host another fundraiser in the form of a treasure hunt and barbeque on Aug. 9. “People can come by and just help support a really great cause right here in our community,” Miller said.
