Canadian soldiers honoured with Hall of Valour at legislative building

A second-floor meeting room in the Saskatchewan Legislative building has been renamed the Hall of Valour to honour 15 Victoria Cross recipients.

The Hall of Valour, which looks to honour Canadian soldiers, was officially unveiled at the Saskatchewan Legislative building on Wednesday.

Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe, along with Provincial Military Liaison Blaine McLeod and members of the Canadian Armed Forces and Canadian veterans were present for the ceremony.

Moe explained the significance of the Hall of Valour, calling it a “lasting expression of our remembrance and appreciation,” for those who have served Canada.

“The brave men and women of our Canadian Armed Forces are deserving of our gratitude, whether they have served in times of conflict or peace,” he said.

“It is an immense privilege to live in a Canada that is strong and free, and the seat of Saskatchewan’s government will honour that privilege by recognizing all who serve.”

Room 218 at the legislative building will now have the words “Hall of Valour” inscribed in bronze at its entrance, with a plaque that reads, in part:

“The Hall of Valour is dedicated to the soldiers and veterans who have served our country with great courage and valour.”

The Victoria Cross is the highest honour for valour in the Commonwealth, which was created in 1856.

The room also contains shadowboxes with a photo and stories on each of the 15 individuals who have received the Victoria Cross that have roots in Saskatchewan.
