LEVIS, Que. - A man who allegedly kidnapped and sexually assaulted an eight-year-old boy before dumping him in an abandoned oil tank has been found fit to stand trial.

Pierre Defoy underwent a psychiatric evaluation before appearing at a bail hearing scheduled for Sept. 9. The Crown has opposed bail.

Defoy is charged with sexual assault causing injury, assault, and sexual incitation on a youth under 14 years old.

Last July 15, alert passersby saw a man take a boy from the trunk of his car and put him in the oil tank. They then alerted police to the man.

Crown prosecutor Valerie Lahaie told reporters after Friday's court hearing that the victim underwent a terrible ordeal but his outlook is good thanks to the support he has received from his family and others.
