MURRAY CORNER, N.B. -- New Brunswick's Liberal leader is promising to introduce a lobster levy and work to expand international lobster markets if elected later this month.
Brian Gallant said Saturday a Liberal government would partner with harvesters and processors to expand markets in Europe and Asia.
Gallant said he would establish a lobster levy to fund a lobster marketing strategy.
"The fisheries sector has always been, and always will be, a critical part of New Brunswick's economy," Gallant said in a press release. "If we're elected, our government will work hard every day to create and maintain jobs in this sector."
Gallant said he would also continue to push Ottawa to reverse changes to the employment insurance program.
The Liberal party is the only one that hasn't yet released a platform for the Sept. 22 election.
The Progressive Conservatives released a platform Friday that promises no new taxes and lean spending.
A day before, the Liberals filed an application with the Court of Queen's Bench in Fredericton in an effort to determine whether the governing Tories are following a law they had introduced only months ago that requires parties to give audited cost estimates of their election promises.
The application also asks the court to rule on whether the Progressive Conservatives are following the legislation as it applies to announcements made in the weeks prior to the start of the election.
