A Brockville youth was arrested after allegedly swinging a machete at a Brockville skate park this week. Officers were called to the skateboard park near the Memorial Centre at approximately 7 p.m. Monday. According to police, the boy was swinging the weapon while others were present. Officers later found the youth, who was still in possession of the machete. Police say the boy is known to struggle with mental health challenges and was taken into custody without incident. He was released to his guardian on conditions and was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He will appear in court at a future date. Brockville police say the incident was one of three “high-priority incidents” officers responded to on Monday evening within a 30-minute timeframe. The other incidents included locating a missing autistic child and the recovery of stolen property. “The coordinated response, adaptability, and teamwork demonstrated by officers throughout these events directly contributed to positive outcomes for those involved and to the continued safety of our community,” Brockville police said in a news release Wednesday.
