Thousands of students are moving to the National Capital Region to start their post-secondary journey at Carleton University and the University of Ottawa this week. The campuses are busy as students prepared for an exciting new chapter. Thursday was move-in day for Paige Barcier, who will be studying criminology at Carleton. “A little stressful, but so far so good,” said Barcier. Barcier’s family has been helping her unpack at her new residence on campus. “It’s all going to be okay,” she said. “Everyone’s here to help and it’s super nice and friendly over here.” She’s one of thousands of students beginning a new chapter in the capital, moving into residence ahead of classes next week. Some have travelled across the East Coast and into Ontario to be here. “We split the drive in two,” said Ryno Maritz, who was helping his daughter move into Carleton. “Our first stop in Quebec City and then we made the morning shift this morning.” Maritz travelled all the way from Halifax. The unloading zone busy at Carleton as residence move-in officially runs from Sept. 3 to Sept. 6 ahead of orientation week. Student groups are offering support along the way. “I would say a lot of social networking would be helpful,” said Diana Tutkishbayeva, the president of the Graduate Student Association. It’s also busy at the University of Ottawa campus downtown. “Pretty smooth so far,” said Don Jones, who was helping his daughter move into the University of Ottawa. “It’s been easy peasy with lots of places to park and easy to move stuff around and find everything.”
