Winter returned to Ottawa on Tuesday, with snow and cold temperatures

It looked and felt like winter in Ottawa today, with snow covering roads and sidewalks and temperatures 15 degrees below normal.

Ottawa saw approximately seven hours of light and blowing snow during the morning and early afternoon periods.

Emergency crews responded to several collisions across Ottawa Tuesday morning, including three crashes on Highway 174 around Blair Road at approximately 11 a.m. Paramedics said no serious injuries had been reported.

The Environment Canada forecast called for 2 to 4 centimetres of snow, with snow ending around 3 p.m.

Heavy snow was reported in the Kingston, Napanee and Brockville areas during the morning period.

Environment Canada’s forecast says it will be clear tonight. Low -8 C.

Sunshine is expected on Wednesday. High 7 C.

Spring-like temperatures are expected for the rest of the week.

Thursday will be sunny. High 14 C.

The forecast says it will be mainly cloudy on Friday. High 11 C.

The outlook for Saturday calls for sunshine. High 12 C.

Sunday will see a mix of sun and cloud. High 14 C.

The normal temperatures for this time of year are a high of 9 C and a low of -1 C.
