Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating a collision between an Ontario Provincial Police vehicle and another car near Carleton Place, Ont., last week.

The crash happened at around 2 p.m. on Sept. 30, on Highway 7 between Concession 5A and Townline Road West.

According to the OPP, an officer was responding in a vehicle to assist with an investigation and was “subsequently involved in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 7 near Townline Road.”

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says the driver of the other vehicle, a 70-year-old woman, was taken to hospital, diagnosed with a serious injury and released from hospital.

The OPP said the officer involved in the crash sustained minor injuries.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of police that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
