Residents in Riverside South got a first look at a proposed community centre and library that will one day serve the growing community. Right now, residents have to go to the Manotick branch for library services or rely on a weekly bookmobile. Several people attended an open house at the Rideauview Community Centre on Tuesday with details of the early design. “The project is not only important for the residents of Riverside South but it’s also going to be one of the anchors of the town centre,” said Riverside South-Findlay Creek Coun. Steve Desroches. “It’s located steps away form the new Limebank Station and will really be part of building a transit-oriented community.” The 11-hectare site near Earl Armstrong Road will include a playground, sports fields, and courts for tennis, basketball and pickleball. “I’ve been in this area for over 15 years now and I think this facility is really long overdue,” said Riverside South resident Sandra Majkic. “My son actually plays water polo, and I’m so interested to see the second phase when they are going to build a pool.” Officials say they should be breaking ground on the project in late 2027. It is expected to be completed by 2030.
