Technical issues with the 911 emergency phone line in eastern Ontario and western Quebec appeared to be resolved on Thursday. Ontario Provincial Police, the Sûreté du Québec, the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais police and Kingston Police reported “intermittent 911 outages” early Thursday morning. “Members of the public requiring emergency police response are urged to call the OPP non-emergency line at 1-888-310-1122, which remains fully operational,” the OPP said in a media release. “OPP members continue to respond to calls for service despite the temporary outage.” In an update Thursday morning, the OPP said the 911 system has “largely stabilized.” “All OPP Provincial Communications Centres across the province are once again receiving and processing 911 calls,” police said. Sûreté du Québec said in a media release that a “technical issue” was affecting the transfer of certain calls from 911 centres to the Sûreté du Québec call management centres across the province. The Sûreté du Québec said the issues affecting the transfer of certain calls had been resolved around 8:30 a.m. and emergency calls were being handled normally. Bell is the provider responsible for the 911 service. A spokesperson said the issue was first detected around 3:15 a.m. “Backup systems were brought online to route calls to emergency services while technicians investigated the outage. 911 service is now fully restored and people with an emergency can call 911,” the spokesperson said. “We are investigating the root cause of the issue and will have further details once available.” With files from CP24 and CTV News Toronto
