Police in Ontario and Quebec are reporting technical issues with the 911 emergency phone line on Thursday and are asking residents to contact police directly in an emergency. Ontario Provincial Police say it has received reports of “intermittent 911 outages” across the province. “Members of the public requiring emergency police response are urged to call the OPP non-emergency line at 1-888-310-1122, which remains fully operational,” the OPP said in a media release. “OPP members continue to respond to calls for service despite the temporary outage.” The OPP is asking people not to call 911 for information, updates or to test the phone line if they are not in an emergency situation. Sûreté du Québec said in a media release that a “technical issue” was affecting the transfer of certain calls from 911 centres to the Sûreté du Québec call management centres across the province. “The Sûreté du Québec is fully mobilized and is implementing the necessary measures to ensure the continuity of police services,” police said. “Police officers remain deployed across the territory and ready to respond at all times.” Police in Kingston, Ont. said it had received reports of intermittent 911 outages across the province. “Kingston Police continues to respond to calls for service during this outage. Further updates will be provided as information becomes available,” police said. Kingston police say residents can call the non-emergency line at 613-549-4660, if they are unable to call 911 and require emergency police services. The MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais police are also warning the public about issues with the 911 emergency line in western Quebec and across Canada. Police said in the event of an emergency, residents can call 819-459-9911 or 819-459-2422. “An investigation is currently underway to restore 911 services,” police said.
