Repairs on the damaged Whispering Point at Kìwekì Point in Ottawa iks expected to last some time more, after an errant school bus that was driven onto the popular lookout damaged the popular spot late last year. The wooden overhang at Whispering Point sustained visible damage in December 2025. Surveillance footage showed a school bus had been driven onto the pathway and scraped some of the wooden beams. The National Capital Commission (NCC) called the damage “significant.” The site has been closed this month, with signage saying it’s for repairs to the damaged caused by the bus. “Repairs are expected to be completed later this fall,” the sign says. A spokesperson for the NCC could not provide a firm timeline beyond that. In a statement to CTV News Ottawa, a spokesperson for the NCC said the organization is seeking financial compensation from the owner of the bus that damaged the structure. Nearby trails and the Pìdàban Footbridge will remain open and accessible throughout the repair work, the NCC says. The NCC opened Kìwekì Point to the public in May 2025 after a $45-million rehabilitation project, which included a new pedestrian bridge and the architectural shelter at Whispering Point. Ottawa police said no criminal charges would be laid because of the damage.
